About the event

“Now my good Angel, whom God appoints

To be my guardian, hover over the swords’ points”

At twilight, during vespers, on Tuesday 29 December 1170, Archbishop Thomas Becket is murdered in Canterbury Cathedral.

A moment echoes down the centuries…

Richmond Shakespeare Society presents T S  Eliot’s stunning but rarely performed verse drama in  three performances in St Mary’s Church.

In such a setting, this play melds  site-specific theatrical ritual  with the pageantry of costume and ceremonial banners and the emotional power of liturgical music, allowing a community to remember its past, and explores the spiritual significance for our human condition of one act of violence.

Booking opens Monday 1stMay
